Dear DNC, I want a primary debate

I believe the democratic national committee is doing a great disservice by not progressing with a traditional primary election for the Democratic Party. Specifically, I am concerned about the DNC’s decision not to hold primary debates between the current sitting president and the potential candidates Robert Kennedy Jr and Marianne Williamson.
According to a poll answered by Republicans, Democrats, independents, and undecided by Real Clear Politics, “President Joe Biden’s average approval rating is 41.8 and a disapproval rating of 56.1” (RCP,2023).
The data conveys that the DNC needs to ensure they can pursue disapproved pollers, such as moderates, independents, and undecided voters who have expressed displeasure with the current president, including those from the Democratic Party.
Actor James Van Der Beek shared his frustration with his party, the DNC, over the lack of primary debates. In the TikTok video, the actor asked,“How is this democracy.” (Van Der Beek, J. 2023). The Dawson Creek actor’s concern is valid because debates are essential for democracy. To have democracy means that the government is for the people by the people.
Therefore, I strongly encourage the DNC to progress with a traditional primary election. Americans deserve to hear from candidates Kennedy Jr. and Williamson. A public forum political debate can instill faith in elected leaders. Debates are vital because they allow for the exchange of different perspectives and ideas, which can lead to a better understanding of complex issues.Most importantly debates allow voters to make a more informed decision when choosing their elected representative.
